C.4digoDial for the Mac

The phone system, operated from your desk.

A lean program in the menu bar that couples the Mac to an Asterisk system of your own. You dial at the computer and keep speaking through the handset.

C.4.1Overview

App icon of digoDial

digoDial

Mac, macOS 15 and later

Anyone who telephones a lot ends up retyping numbers that are already on the screen. digoDial removes that detour: select the number, press the shortcut, your desk phone rings and the system puts the call through.

The other way round, the app shows who is calling, with names from your own directories rather than a string of digits. It sits in the menu bar, has no window, and needs no service between you and your system.

Coming soon to the Mac App Store.

C.4.2What it does

Dial without reaching for the phone
The Mac asks the system to ring your desk phone. As soon as you pick up, the system connects you to the other party. You still speak through the handset; only the dialling happens at the computer.
From any application
Select a number anywhere and press the shortcut. It is fixed to control, option, command and D, and it can be switched off.
Names instead of numbers
For an incoming call the app looks up the name in up to three sources in turn: the contacts on the Mac, your own directory over LDAP, and an interface of your own. Names it finds are cached.
State in the menu bar
Calls in progress, missed calls, voicemail and do not disturb sit in the top right. There is no window, and the app does not appear in the Dock.
The system stays yours
digoDial talks to an Asterisk system you run yourself, over its manager interface. All it needs is an account of its own with exactly the rights required for dialling, transferring and do not disturb.
No account at our end
There is no service in between. The app connects to your system and to the directories you entered, and to nothing else.

C.4.3Requirement

digoDial requires an Asterisk system you have access to. Without one the app has nothing to talk to. If you run such a system and would like to try the program, write to us at info@digosoft.de.
